Valverde’s camp claims that this was in response to Baena making derogatory comments about Valverde’s family, including a miscarriage scare that Valverde and his partner experienced in February. Baena denies making these comments, and went to complain to Villarreal delegate and a policeman after the incident. The matter is currently under investigation.
